E-Health:
Elizabeth’s interest in using new technologies to help patients take better care of their health started in the 1990s with two randomised multi-centre controlled trials in primary care of decision aids, delivered by Interactive Video Disc. Her Harkness Fellowship took her to the University of California, San Francisco, where she analysed survey data from national probability samples of physicians and the public to explore the effect of health information on the Internet and Direct to Consumer Advertising on the doctor-patient relationship. During her DH Career Scientist Award she obtained funding for a series of linked studies aimed at determining the effects of Internet Interventions for patients with chronic disease on health outcomes, health service utilisation and the doctor-patient relationship. Her portfolio of research has expanded to include a wide range of E-health projects
