…en we leren steeds bij tijdens de Covid19 pandemie, maar een lockdown van de vaccinatie tijdens een pandemie is riskant. Daarom dient hierover snel duidelijkheid te ontstaan. Is die er niet, dan moet de campagne snel worden herstart in Nederland. Vanuit medisch-epidemiologisch oogpunt, dat is althans mijn mening. Zeker, het betreft niet alle vaccins, maar dit is toch een flinke domper. Want over wiens vrijheid praten we uiteindelijk. Daarover later!
Twee weken stoppen
Stoppen met het AstraZeneca vaccin. Diverse Europese landen doen dat ook, terwijl andere landen zoals België het beleid niet hebben veranderd. De argumentatie die wordt gegeven is dat er een daling van bloedplaatjes (trombocyten) bij trombose , dus een verbruikscoagulopathie, zou zijn gesignaleerd. En dat bij een jongere categorie. De trombosevorming zou verband kunnen houden met een voorafgaande vaccinatie. Misschien zijn er meer argumenten, maar die zijn mij niet bekend. Het bijzondere is dat trombosevorming juist een verrassende complicatie vormt bij ernstige vormen van Covid19. Nadat dit was vastgesteld werd voorkòmen van trombose (dat noemen we prophylaxe) een belangrijk aspect van de behandeling. Dus ook de vaccinatie campagne dient mede dit doel.
Derde Golf
De Covid19 pandemie is in ons land nog steeds zeer actief met nog een dreiging van een derde golf. Vanuit epidemiologisch standpunt zou je juist liever versnellen dan vertragen met vaccineren. Er is wel een verschil in benadering tussen behandeling van doodzieke mensen met medicamenten die mogelijke bijwerkingen of nadelen hebben. Dan wel een prik geven aan gezonde burgers. In dat laatste geval tellen nadelen toch zwaarder. Dat mag je niet vergelijken.
Vrijheid
Het brengt mij wel terug bij een heel interessante discussie gisterenmiddag. Daarbij werd in een webinar ruim een uur lang Annelies de Dijn aan de tand gevoeld over vrijheid. Zij schreef daarover een boek. En er was een interview in de Volkskrant.Er ontstond een levendig debat. In dit dossier vraag ik mij vandaag af of de keuze om de campagne te onderbreken ook iets te maken heeft met deze discussie. Solidariteit om de vaccinatie door te zetten vanwege het grotere belang van deugdzame burgers. Of is de burger hier consument, een klant die nu absolute zekerheid mag verlangen van de overheid.
Zijn we verantwoordelijk naar medeburgers in andere landen. De pandemie gaat niet alleen ons aan. Zie oproep WHO
